A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fight on New Year's Eve.

The 31-year-old victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital following the incident at a house in Langdown Road, Hythe, Hampshire, and was pronounced dead at 22:20 GMT.

A man, also 31, was arrested in Totton and is in custody in Southampton.

Hampshire Constabulary said a post-mortem examination was being carried out.

A spokesman added: "Officers were called at around 21:00, after a man sustained serious injuries in the altercation.

"The next-of-kin of the victim have been notified but there are still some close family members to be informed."
