Southsea Coral raided by knifeman

A man armed with what appeared to be a knife made off with nearly £1,000 after threatening a member of staff at a betting shop.

He struck at a branch of Coral in Elm Grove, Southsea at about about 17:40 GMT on Saturday, Hampshire Police said.

Money was taken from both the till and the safe.

A 30-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested and remains in custody. Police are appealing for people who were in the shop at the time to come forward.
