Arrest after man shot in buttocks in Basingstoke house attack

A man has been arrested for attempted murder after a man was shot in his buttocks and legs.

The 29-year-old victim is believed to have been shot at a house in Bennett Close, Basingstoke, on Friday evening.

He attended North Hampshire Hospital on Monday and is still being treated for his injuries. Hampshire Constabulary said it could not explain why he delayed going to hospital.

A 25-year-old man from Basingstoke is currently in police custody.

Det Insp Stephen Spencer said: "Since becoming aware of the incident we have been conducting many inquiries in the area to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened.

"The information we have so far suggests this was an isolated, targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public."

The injured man's wounds are described as not life threatening.
