Surgeons in Southampton say they are performing a record number of hip replacement operations on patients in their 90s and even aged over 100.

One patient who received a new hip at Southampton General Hospital was 105 years old.

Advances in anaesthesia and recovery methods have made the treatment more available to older, frailer patients.
