Former Portsmouth FC boardroom chairs were 'rescued from skip'

19 September 2013 Last updated at 21:46 BST

A set of antique chairs previously used in the boardroom at Portsmouth FC were thrown in a skip by workmen unaware of their chequered history.

The set almost vanished from existence in 2006 when the club was revamping its boardroom furniture. They were rescued by a quick-thinking builder.

But, as a forthcoming episode of the BBC's Antiques Roadshow will reveal, the chairs were originally made for the world's first iron hulled armoured warship HMS Warrior and donated to the club by the Royal Navy.
