Gosport man arrested following suspected hit-and-run

A man has been arrested after a cyclist was left with serious head injuries following an apparent hit-and-run.

A 79-year-old man was hit by a car in Privett Road, Gosport, near the junction with The Chase, shortly before 19:00 BST on Wednesday.

He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries where his condition is described as "serious but stable".

A 31-year-old Gosport man, who was arrested at his home, was bailed until January pending further inquiries.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
