The family of a "devoted father" who was found unconscious in an alleyway have said they are in shock over his death.

Kevin Wyeth, 31, from Southampton, was found off Defender Road, Woolston, at about 02:30 BST on Saturday.

Post-mortem tests showed he died from head, facial and neck injuries.

A Bournemouth man, 31, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 25-year-old woman was also arrested, but has been released without charge.

Hampshire Police said the woman, from Southampton, continues to assist police as a witness in the investigation and is receiving specialist support by officers.

Mr Wyeth was found close to the cut-through with Tankerville Road. Despite attempts to revive him, he died at the scene.

'Sadly missed'

In a statement Mr Wyeth's parents, Linda and Kevin, said: "We are, as you'd expect, in shock at Kevin's death.

"Kevin was a good man, hard-working, very sociable and popular within the local community.

"He was a very loving and devoted father to his three sons.

"He will always be in our hearts and will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends."

Detectives said he was seen in Wharncliffe Road at about 22:30 BST on Friday.

Anyone who saw or spoke to him after that has been urged to contact Hampshire police.

Mr Wyeth was wearing a white sweatshirt with blue lettering across the chest, dark trousers and was carrying a white carrier bag.
