A 27-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man stabbed outside his Basingstoke home.

Stephan Hollow, 53, died in hospital after the attack in Blackdown Close, Buckskin, in the early hours of Monday.

William Smith, of Pershore Road, Basingstoke, was also charged with an offence of committing grievous bodily harm against a 22-year-old man.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Winchester Crown Court on 27 August.

Knife search

Mr Hollow's family have spoken of their "terrible shock" at his death.

They said: "This has left a big hole in our family which will never be filled.

"We would like to thank the ambulance staff and local residents who tried very hard to save him. We will be eternally grateful.

"This has been a terrible shock for our large family and we are still trying to come to terms with what has happened."

Police are still searching for a knife used in the attack.
