Arrest after woman's body found in Southsea

Wilmcote House The woman's body was found at Wilmcote House

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a Portsmouth council flat.

Police discovered the body at Wilmcote House, Southsea, on Tuesday after council concerns about the welfare of an elderly woman living there.

A 53-year-old man from Southsea was arrested and has since been released on police bail until November, pending further enquiries.

Police said there was no risk to the wider community.

Formal identification and a post mortem examination on the woman's body have yet to take place.
