Arrest over Fair Oak attempted child abduction

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction in Hampshire.

Police said a girl was walking with her bicycle on Alan Drayton Way, Fair Oak at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday when she was stopped by a man in a van.

The 11-year-old, who said the man's questions "frightened" her, cycled away and raised the alarm.

Hampshire Police said a 46-year-old man from Eastleigh remains in police custody.

DC Claire Reynolds said: "I would like to hear from any witnesses who may have spoken to or seen the girl visibly upset afterwards."

Any motorists who may have been held up in traffic as a result of the van stopping in the road are also asked to come forward.
