Power cut closes Southampton city centre shops

Shoppers in Southampton were ushered out of stores earlier as a power cut forced businesses to close.

More than 200 customers were still without power in the city centre at 16:00 BST, after an underground cable fault cut supplies at about 14:00.

Scottish and Southern Electric said 500 customers between Above Bar and Town Quay were initially affected.

It apologised and said power was restored by 17:00.
