Detectives investigating a fatal drug-related shooting in Southampton have recovered a firearm.

Jahmel Jones, 23, was found wounded at a property in St Mary Street at about 11:00 BST on Saturday. He later died at hospital.

Police are carrying out tests on the firearm which was found on Monday.

A 36-year-old woman and three men aged 41, 21 and 18, all from Southampton, remain in custody. A 21-year-old woman has been bailed.

Mr Jones died from a gunshot wound to the head.

'Fast moving'

Police are continuing to conduct inquiries in the St Mary's area and are examining forensic and CCTV evidence.

Details of the type of firearm and where it was found have not been revealed.

Ch Insp Craig Dibdin described the investigation as "complex and fast moving" and said the force would maintain high visibility patrols in the area to reassure the public.

Police believe the shooting was drug-related and that the victim, from Lyon Street, Southampton and the suspects were known to each other.

Hampshire Constabulary launched Operation Fortress in May last year to crack down on drug-related violence in Southampton.

It was set up in response to a number of violent crimes in the city, including a shooting and several stabbings.
