Romsey arson victim's daughter appeals for help

One fireman was on fire when he helped rescue Elizabeth Sanger-Davies from the burning house

The daughter of an 83-year-old woman rescued from her Hampshire home following a suspected arson attack said it was a "miracle" she survived.

Annie Sanger-Davies, 40, described how mother Elizabeth was rescued from her burning Romsey home early on Saturday.

About 40 firefighters tackled the blaze and Mrs Sanger-Davies needed hospital treatment after inhaling smoke.

Detectives are investigating but said the cause of the fire at Stroud School in Highwood Lane was not yet known.

'Mortal danger'

The woman's daughter said: "It's actually a miracle she got out of that building. We know that the people who were in her house knew that she and her dog were in the house.

'It's just horrendous what these people have done.

"There are people out there who must have seen something or know something.

"There are so many people we need to thank, they were fantastic.

"In fact one of the firemen was in terrible mortal danger. He was on fire as well.

"They did an amazing job of getting her out of here."

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A car that was parked close to the two-storey property when the fire took hold has now been removed from the scene for forensic examination.
