Motorists face diversions with the 32-hour closure of a busy stretch of Hampshire motorway during improvement works.
The M27 eastbound is to shut between junctions four and five near Eastleigh while the carriageway surface is angled to improve surface water drainage.
The Highways Agency said it is the "best, safest and most cost-effective" option.
It is hoped works will reduce standing water on the road and improve safety.
Phil Sheppard, Highways Agency asset manager, said: "We have carefully planned the work, liaising with the local council and police, so it can be completed safely while keeping disruption to a minimum."
Diversions will be in place during the closure.
The stretch is to shut from 21:00 GMT on 9 March to 05:30 GMT on 11 March.
