M3 motorway pedestrian hit by van near Winchester

A 53-year-old woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a van on the M3 on Friday night.

Police were called at 22:50 GMT to the northbound stretch of the motorway at junction 11, near Winchester in Hampshire.

The driver of the white goods van stopped at the scene and is helping police with their inquiries.

It is not yet known why the woman was walking on the M3 and police are appealing for witnesses.

The motorway was closed for six hours.
