'Naked rambler' back in Oxford court with no clothes on

A man known as "the naked rambler" has appeared in court with no clothes on to hear if charges against him would be dropped.

Stephen Gough, 53, from Eastleigh, stood naked in the dock at Oxford Crown Court as Judge Patrick Eccles rejected an application for his case to be dismissed.

Mr Gough is accused of outraging public decency in Carterton, Oxfordshire, in December.

He is to appear in court in February.

Mr Gough saw his application for bail refused before Christmas when he told the court of his wish to stand trial naked.

His lawyers have cited a previous case of a man being allowed to stand trial naked.

In 2001, activist Vincent Bethell was granted permission to have no clothes on during his trial at Southwark Crown Court for allegedly causing a public nuisance. He was later acquitted by a jury.
