Southampton University Romero Halls fire prompts new arrest

A second person has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze at a University of Southampton halls of residence.

A 21-year old man was arrested after a fire broke out in a bedroom at Romero Halls in Archers Road, on Saturday.

An 18-year-old was also held. Both have been bailed until 2 April.

Residents were evacuated because of the fire, at 22:30 GMT. No-one was hurt. Most students were able to return to the halls in the early hours.

However, those living in rooms adjacent to where the fire started were temporarily re-housed.
