Teenager held after fire breaks out at university halls

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a university halls of residence had to be evacuated during a blaze.

The 18-year-old was held after the fire started in a bedroom at the University of Southampton's Romero Halls in Archers Road on Saturday.

Residents were evacuated after the blaze broke out at 22:30 GMT. No-one was hurt.

The man was later arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Most students were able to return to the halls in the early hours.

However, those living in rooms adjacent to where the fire started have been temporarily rehoused.
