Waterlooville lollipop death road patrolled by police

Mr Elsmore had worked as a patrol man for the school for 13 years

Police will patrol a Hampshire crossing where a lollipop patrol man was killed, until the end of term.

Raymond Elsmore, 82, was hit by a car in Tempest Avenue, Waterlooville, near Queens Inclosure Primary School, on Wednesday. He later died in hospital.

Police community support officers (PCSOs) will assist in managing the crossing, with a new patrol officer expected to start in the new year.

A 21-year-old female driver has been released on bail.

Mr Elsmore, who was wearing a reflective tabard and carrying his lollipop, had just escorted a parent across the road when he was struck.

The pensioner, who lived in Waterlooville, had worked as a patrol man for the school for 13 years.

In a statement, his family said: "We feel so lucky to have shared our life with someone so fun-loving, happy, friendly and caring.

"We are very touched by everyone's kind tributes."

The school said it was "completely devastated".
