An air and sea search for a missing skipper whose yacht was found beached on the Isle of Wight has been called off for a second day.

The vessel was found with no-one on board but with its engine still running and sails up near Brighstone on Saturday evening.

The skipper is believed to have left Poole, Dorset, on Saturday morning to sail to Hayling Island.

Solent Coastguard has suspended the search until new information emerges.

A spokesman said: If we get any new information that prompts us to an area then we will recommence a search."

Coastguard helicopters from Portland and RNLI Lifeboats from Lee On Solent, Yarmouth and Mudeford have been involved in the operation since Saturday.

A member of the public found the yacht, called Brigand, at 17:15 BST on Saturday. The skipper has not been identified.
