Hampshire police stations put up for sale

Police stations in Hampshire, closed as part of the force's review of premises, are being sold off.

In September Hampshire Police Authority approved plans to sell police buildings, some over 100 years old, which are no longer deemed suitable.

The authority said mobile technology made it possible for officers to work from alternative locations.

The first stations, at Old Basing, Twyford and Stockbridge, are being put on sale from the end of October.

A spokesperson said: "No building will be removed from our estate until a suitable alternative location is found for police officers and staff."

In the case of Stockbridge, police have moved into an office at the town's fire station.

The Police Authority estates report said the money raised through the sales would offset the cost of a new corporate headquarters at Mottisfont Court in Winchester and a new base at Alpha Park near Chandlers Ford.
