Girl, 10, dies after crash on the Isle of Wight

A 10-year-old girl has died following a road crash on the Isle of Wight.

She was with her parents in a Subaru on the A3020 Cowes Road in Newport at 20:30 BST on Friday when it was hit by a Ford Puma.

A man, 44, a 41-year-old woman, the girl and the driver of the Puma were all taken to hospital after the crash.

The couple's injuries are described as "life-threatening". The 30-year-old Puma driver, from Sandown, has been arrested.

He remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said the family was from the local area.

The road between Newport and Cowes was closed for several hours as officers from the roads policing unit undertook a detailed investigation.
