Christmas charity song hoping to top festive chart

Jason Noble faces competition from this year's X Factor winner, Nirvana and The Wombles

A 24-year-old music graduate from Hampshire hopes to top the UK charts with his Christmas single.

Jason Noble from the New Forest, who is blind, recorded and released Be Mine This Christmas as a download in aid of the charity the RNIB.

Mr Noble said: "I wanted to help people like me and I love Christmas, so I thought I'd write a Christmas song."

The track was recorded with session musicians, the RNIB and Beaulieu Warblers' choirs.

The musician from Sway, who started playing the piano at the age of four, wrote the composition for his dissertation at Brighton Institute of Modern Music in February.

'Song with longevity'

"Music's been the one constant that I've stuck with for the past 20 years and excelled at," he said.

Mr Noble said he opted for a festive song after becoming fed up with the same Christmas tunes every year.

"There have been songs that have reached number one that have nothing to do with Christmas. I wanted to write a song with longevity for Christmas year in and year out," he said.

The current favourites to top the UK singles chart this Christmas are the winner of this year's X Factor, Nirvana, The Military Wives' Choir and The Wombles.
