Organisers said 24,000 started the 10-mile (16km) road race on Southsea seafront in the morning.

Apart from elite athletes, the race attracts celebrities, sports stars, club runners and fundraisers.

Rolling road closures and parking restrictions are in place around the race course.

The race has been held in Portsmouth since 1991. The route passes many of the city's most famous landmarks including the Spinnaker Tower and HMS Victory.

Millions of pounds are raised for good causes each year.
