British apples celebrated in Abingdon, Oxfordshire

The annual harvest has been celebrated in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, during the town's first Apple Day event.

Although a warm spring made this year a good one for apple growing, the event also drew attention to the dangers of traditional varieties of apple being lost as orchards are grubbed up.

The first tree in a new community orchard in the town was planted during the day.
