Lydney sex attack: Woman assaulted near boating lake

A woman suffered a serious sexual assault as she walked near a Gloucestershire lake.

The victim told police she became aware she was being followed as she passed the church in Lydney late on Saturday.

Gloucestershire Police said a fishing competition was going on then and appealed for anglers to contact police.

Earlier on Saturday a woman in Lydney had her dress torn by a man in his early 40s. Police are unsure if there is a link between the two attacks.

In the first incident the man ran off when he was disturbed by a green vehicle, believed to be an old style Ford Fiesta, that stopped next to the woman, just after 13:00 BST.

Detectives are appealing for the car's occupants to contact police.
