Gloucestershire bus pass peak time fare under review

Gloucestershire County Council is to review the decision to charge elderly and disabled people who use buses at peak times.

Currently bus passes can only be used on buses in the county after 09:30.

However, a motion has been put forward by the local Labour group calling for those entitled to be able to travel for free before this time.

The council said it spends £1.5m a year on the scheme but recognises the "significant inconvenience" it causes.

The Conservative-led authority said it would consult with the county's bus service providers and local health partners to "explore the implications" of allowing older people and people with disabilities to use the bus passes from 08:30 onwards.

Disability Rights UK welcomed the review and said "things like a free bus pass make a big difference to people's lives".
