A speed limit of 20mph is being proposed for almost 80 roads in a Gloucestershire town.

Stroud Town Council said it supported the proposals, which it believes would "improve safety and the environment".

Stroud's deputy mayor John Marjoram said: "The scheme does not include the entire town but a sizeable chunk."

Gloucestershire County Council is carrying out a consultation on the plans for the restricted speed limits, which closes on 29 January.
