New Asda store in Lydney to 'create 250 jobs'

About 250 jobs are to be created by the opening of a new Asda in the Forest of Dean, the supermarket says.

The council granted Asda's application permission but said the "matter would be referred to the Secretary of State before it could issue permission".

The firm hopes to open the 25,000 sq ft store in Lydney in late 2014.

Asda's Phillip Bartrom said: "We want to be part of the community in Lydney and look forward to shoppers joining us next year."

Plans for a new Sainsbury's store on land east of Lydney were rejected by the local authority.
