Woman rescued from Gloucester flat following suspected arson

A woman has been rescued from a second-floor flat in Gloucester following a fire which firefighters believe was started deliberately.

The blaze started among mattresses and clothes in the basement of the house in Barton Street, early on Tuesday, and rapidly smoke-logged the property.

Chief Fire Officer Jon Hall said by acting quickly crews "may well had saved a life".

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation before going to hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by fire investigation officers and Gloucestershire Police.
