Rock climber in 50ft cliff fall in Tidenham

A man in his 30s has fallen about 50ft while rock-climbing in Gloucestershire.

The accident happened at about 15:00 BST on Sunday at Shorn Cliff, Tidenham, when the man lost his footing and fell to the ground, injuring his neck.

Rescue teams made up of a total of 14 crew from Lydney and Coleford fire stations managed to winch him to safety using specialist equipment.

The rescue took more than two hours and the man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.

Ambulance crews said the injured man was "alert and talking throughout" when he was rescued.
