A substantial amount of cash was stolen from a cash machine in Gloucestershire after thieves used explosives to open it, police said.
Detectives are investigating possible links between the raid and other cases across the country.
The raid was carried out on a bank on Olympus Park, Quedgeley, late on Monday night.
Det Ch Insp Steve Bean said three men were seen running away before driving off in a light-coloured Audi car.
"A forensic examination of the scene is taking place today and we are also looking at CCTV from the area as part of our investigation.
"I would appeal to anyone in the area who may have seen this car or anyone acting suspiciously just before midnight to contact police," he said.
