A 19-year-old woman has been subjected to a serious sexual assault by two men in a lane near the University of Gloucestershire's Oxstalls Lane campus.

The victim was waiting for a bus in the early hours of 29 January when the pair approached her from Estcourt Road.

Det Ch Insp Alastair Stenner said the victim was dragged to Oxstalls Lane and attacked.

Police are not linking the attack with a series of sex assaults which took place in the area last summer.

'Assistance and support'

"There aren't any words to describe the ordeal the victim has been through," Mr Stenner said.

He added officers would be talking to university staff and residents to provide assistance and support.

"If you were in the Cheltenham Road area of Longlevens at around 1.45am on Tuesday and saw the men or anything unusual or suspicious please contact police.

"Even the smallest detail could be key to identifying these attackers."
