Gloucestershire drifting snow causes roads to be closed
Police closed the A436 near Chatcombe Pitch after snow drifts blew onto the road
Strong winds blowing snow onto a number of Gloucestershire roads have made driving conditions difficult .
The A436 between Severn Springs and Andoversford was shut after police received reports of several collisions.
The road between Foston's Ash Grove and Birdlip village was also closed due to drifting snow.
Gloucestershire Highways was called in to help the police speed up efforts to reopen both roads.
A Highways spokesperson said winds around the Chatcombe Pitch area had brought drifts onto the A436 carriageway.
"We have a gritter, with plough, trying to clear as much as possible and get the road open once it is safe to do so," said Scott McCauley-Lowe.
Gritting teams are preparing to spend the night salting the county's main routes.
