Divers have been searching a canal as part of an investigation into the whereabouts of a missing student.

It is thought George Ford, who is from the town, left his home in Slad Road at around 03:00 GMT on 16 December.

The 20-year-old, a student at the University of Nottingham, is described as white, 6ft 1in (1.85m) tall, with brown, wavy shoulder length hair.

A force spokesman said diving teams had been "stood down" but the search would resume on Thursday morning.

A specialist dive team from Avon and Somerset Police has been helping with the search.

He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, grey combat trousers, a brown satchel bag and black trainers.

Gloucestershire Police said it was "very concerned" for the student's welfare.
