River Wye historic bridges studied for enhancement plan

Ways to enhance the Lydbrook, Redbrook and Wireworks bridges will be looked at

Three bridges across the River Wye are undergoing "vital" survey work as consideration is given to their future.

The Lydbrook and Redbrook Bridges in the Forest of Dean, and the Wireworks Bridge at Tintern, Wales, are being given thorough examinations by experts.

All three former railway bridges, which span the River Wye, are now used as public footpaths.

The surveys will examine their current condition and offer suggestions about "fulfilling their potential".

Locomotives used the Redbrook and Lydbrook bridges until the early 1960s.

The Wireworks Bridge in Tintern, which closed in the early 20th Century, was used to carry materials between the Lower Wireworks to the Wye Valley Railway.
