On-street parking in Gloucestershire: Private firm to take over
Parking enforcement in Gloucestershire is to be run by a private company rather than the six district councils.
A spokesman for the county council said interested parties would be able to bid to run the service with a contractor chosen by December.
But he claimed it would not be a money-making scheme or that contractors would be incentivised to issue tickets.
"It doesn't matter how many tickets the contractor issues, they will be paid the same amount," he said.'Same approach'
The Conservative-led authority hopes the move will lead towards a more consistent approach to enforcement and will free money to be spent on parking, roads and local transport.
"If someone is parking in Stroud one day and then going to Cirencester the next day, for example, they will see the same approach to parking, by the same people and in the same way," the council spokesman said.
"A single provider will improve the service for customers and save money for all councils," he added.
The new arrangements will begin across the county in April 2013, with the exception of Gloucester and the Forest of Dean which will adopt the new scheme in September 2014 subject to further discussions.
