Minchinhampton retirement home plans turned down

Proposals to build retirement homes on a conservation site in Gloucestershire have been turned down.

Blue Cedar Homes wanted to build seven houses on the Lemon Field in Minchinhampton, near Stroud.

Planners said the homes would not fit in with the town's historic look, while locals said it would take away the only open space in the area.

Phil Skill, head of planning at Stroud District Council, said the site provided "excellent views".

"Members felt even though that the land wasn't in public ownership, it still had an amenity value to the residents," he added.
