The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to visit next month's Badminton Horse Trials, it has been announced.

The couple will attend the final day of the Gloucestershire equestrian event on 7 May and present prizes.

The last day of the five-day event will also see the duke's cousin Zara Phillips try to earn a place at the London 2012 Olympics.

The event is a highlight in the equestrian calendar, attracting thousands of people.

Show-jumping including a dressage element and a cross-country course are scheduled to take place on 7 May.
