Visitors have been barred from all wards at Cheltenham General Hospital to control the spread of the winter vomiting bug norovirus.
Visiting to Ward 6B of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester has also been restricted.
An NHS spokesman said there were some exceptions, which included people visiting on compassionate grounds.
The spokesman said people should liaise with a member of ward staff if they believe their case is exceptional.
He asked people suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit friends or relatives in hospitals, nursing and care homes until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.
