Bream and Parkend street light reduction consultation held

People in two Gloucestershire villages are being asked for their views on a plan to cut street lighting at night.

Gloucestershire County Council has converted 87 towns to part night lighting and is next to consult people in Bream and Parkend about the scheme.

Part night lighting involves turning off some street lights between midnight and 05:30 and switching high wattage bulbs to dim ones.

The council's Lesley Smith said so far feedback had been "really positive".

"What we're doing is making a real difference, both environmentally and financially," she added.

Since the scheme was launched in 2009, the council has saved £202,760 and made a carbon reduction of 1,392 tonnes - enough to boil 90 million kettles.

Two open meetings allowing residents to discuss the scheme are taking place on 14 December. Details can be found at the council's website.
