Bigsweir Bridge on the River Wye restoration complete

Bigsweir Bridge The 17 tonne weight limit has been reinstated on the Bigsweir Bridge in the Forest of Dean

Work to restore a Grade II listed bridge across the River Wye in Gloucestershire has been completed.

A weight restriction put in place during the repairs to Bigsweir Bridge, on the A466 near St Briavels, has also been lifted.

Gloucestershire Highways have strengthened and repainted the 180-year-old cast iron structure after the work started last November.

They had hoped to finish by March but found more cracks during repainting.

Councillor Will Windsor-Clive, from Gloucestershire County Council, said: "The A466 over the River Wye is a very busy road and it was vital to carry out these works to extend the life of the bridge."
