The ex-chief finance officer of a fashion company that owned Oasis is one of two men who have been arrested after a man's death in Essex.

The BBC understands Richard Glanville, 59, was initially questioned on suspicion of the attempted murder of Ricci Gallagher - found injured at his farmhouse in Little Burstead.

The 46-year-old died in hospital a week later, on 6 August.

A 53-year-old man from Basildon was also arrested. Both have been bailed.

Minutes before police were alerted to the farmhouse on Sudburys Farm Road, Mr Gallagher had reported a fire at his home about half a mile away in Blind Lane, Little Burstead.

The BBC understands he had lived there just one week before the fire, which totally destroyed the property.

Police said they were linking the incidents and were investigating why Mr Gallagher was at the farmhouse.

Officers are looking to speak to witnesses who may have seen any "suspicious or unusual activity" in the area.

They are particularly keen to trace the driver of a lorry towing a trailer and a man driving a grey Vauxhall car in the area between 09:00 and 09:30 BST on 30 July.

The car driver, described as aged 20 to 30 and wearing a V-neck T-shirt, asked a firefighter for directions.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance charity confirmed the Duke of Cambridge was the co-pilot when Mr Gallagher was airlifted to hospital.

Mr Glanville worked for Aurora Fashions, a holding company which owned Oasis, Coast, Warehouse and Karen Millen until 2013.
