Stolen Colchester First bus taken on 'joy ride'

Bus depot on Magdalen Street, Colchester The bus is the third to be stolen from the depot in nine months

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a bus was taken from an Essex depot and driven for two miles before being stopped by police.

The First bus was taken from Magdalen Street, Colchester, at about 04:00 BST and stopped in Avon Way 20 minutes later.

Two other buses were damaged in the yard before the single decker vehicle was driven through locked gates.

The man, from Colchester, remains in police custody for questioning.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

A spokeswoman for First, which runs more than 20 bus routes around the town, said an internal investigation had begun but would not comment about the depot's security.
