Police have arrested two men over the fatal stabbing of a student in Essex.

Hassan Mohammed, from Camberwell, south London, died after being stabbed twice in York Road, Southend, on 7 July.

A 17-year-old man from Westcliff-on-Sea was arrested and bailed on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

A 40-year-old man from Southend is continuing to be questioned, after being arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

Another student Tajwar Alam, 18, of Sleaford Road, Tottenham, was charged with murder and possessing a bladed instrument earlier this month.

A 17 year-old boy, from north London, has also been previously charged with firearms offences and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Mohammed, 24, died from blood loss from stab wounds.

Essex Police said they have now recovered a blue Peugeot 307 car that was seen close to where the killing took place. It has been taken away for forensic examination.

A 17 year-old boy from Southend remains on police bail on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and assisting an offender.

Mr Mohammed has been described by his family as a "very friendly, caring person".
