Leanne Meecham: Westcliff murder accused remanded in custody

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his ex-partner who was stabbed at her home in Essex.

Leanne Meecham, 26, died in hospital on Thursday, a week after she was found injured at a property in Park Street, Westcliff.

Simon Meecham, 42, of Southend, was remanded in custody at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court. He will appear at the city's Crown Court on Monday.

Ms Meecham's family described her as a "devoted mother".

In a statement, they said: "Leanne was a beautiful woman and a much-loved daughter, sister and mother who always put the happiness of others before her own.

"She was a devoted mother and a best friend to her siblings, and was always there for anyone who ever needed her help.

"Leanne would not let people worry about her and even when times were tough for her she showed that she was one of life's angels."
