Westcliff stab suspect accused of murder after victim dies

A man has been charged with the murder of his former partner who was found stabbed in Essex.

Leanne Meecham, 26, died in hospital after being found at her home on Park Street, Westcliff on 13 February.

Simon Meecham, 42, from Southend, has been charged with murder and is due before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court, on Saturday.

He was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held in police custody.

Ms Meecham died at the Royal London Hospital, where she was taken after being found with critical injuries.

In a statement, Ms Meecham's family said: "Leanne was a beautiful woman and a much loved daughter, sister and mother who always put the happiness of others before her own.

"Leanne's tragic and untimely death has left a massive hole in all of our lives that none of us will ever be able to fill and she will never be forgotten by those who love her.

"We hope that Leanne is now in peace and that justice be allowed to take its course."
