Abacus Day Nursery, Billericay Ofsted has suspended the nursery's registration, said Essex Police

A nursery in Essex has been closed while investigations are carried out over allegations about the treatment of children in its care, said police.

Concerns have been raised over the health, safety and welfare of children attending the Abacus Day Nursery, in Orchard Avenue, Billericay.

A 49-year-old woman from Wickford, arrested as part of the investigation, has been released on police bail.

The nursery is yet to comment on the allegations.

A sign in the building's window said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to close the nursery today... sorry for any inconvenience caused."

A spokesperson for Essex Police said they had been informed by Ofsted that the nursery's registration had been suspended and it will be closed for up to six weeks.
