Two people die in Thorpe Bay car fire

The deaths of two people who died in a car fire on the Essex coast are being treated as "unexplained", police said.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on the Esplanade, in Thorpe Bay, at about 17:20 GMT.

Police arrived to find "the bodies of what is believed to be two people inside the car", said a spokeswoman.

The fire was put out just before 18:00 GMT. Detectives are now working to confirm the identity of the people who died.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "At this stage the deaths are being treated as unexplained and an investigation has begun to establish the events leading up to the car fire."
