A boxer who was shot in the chest is "eager to get back in the ring" after confirming his first return fight, his promoter said.

Martin Ward and his brother were shot in Essex in August. A man has been charged with the attempted murders.

Anthony Leaver from Matchroom said the 22-year-old was "fully fit" and would return to fight an unconfirmed opponent at London's Excel on 14 December.

He said: "We're so glad for him to be back out there".

The promoter added: "He wouldn't be boxing at all if he wasn't up to it."

The shootings happened at a farm off Goatswood Lane in Navestock on 27 August.

Window-fitter Francis O'Donoghue was charged by police last month and is due to attend Basildon Crown Court on 30 December.

Former Team GB boxer Ward has won all six bouts since turning professional last September.

In the past week he has posted pictures on Twitter of him training.
